I received my gas and electric bill for August a few days ago. My gas bill came in at $133 and my electric was $410.00. Now that I’m using Quicken to track expenses, I did some research into how much I spent on gasoline for my auto. I spent $156 on gas in August.

This brings a combined total of ($410+$133+$156) = $699 for energy related expenses in one month!

My prior month utilities and gas came in at $395 for electricity, $4 for gas and about $80 for gasoline so June was a hit of $479.

This is a good reason to invest in ETFs like XLE and XLU.
