As I stated yesterday, I had a visit with a good friend this past weekend and he told me about his visit to the dentist last week. He drove into the same parking lot he’s been driving into every 6 months for the past 6 years to get his dental checkup.
He walked into the elevator and pushed the 4 button. As the elevator door ascended and the door opened, he walked over to office and opened the door. At first, he said he thought he was in the wrong office so he closed the door, looked at the office number and the sign which still read, “Dental Office”
When he opened the door again, the receptionist and assistance laughed out loud. “Yeah you’re in the right office” she said. “I could have sworn this was the wrong office” he replied laughing out loud. “I though I had died and gone to heaven” he jokingly remarked.
What was the big deal? Well, it seems he has been going to the same dentist for years and what he particularly liked about this dentist was that he was a modest man with a modest office and a great view of the tree lined park below from the dental chair.
Between his last visit and the one last week, the dentist decided to remodel his entire office. He acquired the office space next door because the new reception room was at least twice as large as before. The new reception desk was rather large and sported some “Dakota Mahogany” granite countertops. New dental chairs were added, walls were remodeled, painted and adorned with new artwork, and all cabinetry was replaced with new cabinets.
“The new place looked like a federal reserve bank”, he said as we talked about the rising costs of healthcare in the country.
As I’ve stated before, anytime and every time you are out and about is good to take in your surroundings and look for investment opportunities. If this particular modest dentist has opted to spend some money and rebuild his entire office then you know healthcare may be an up coming investment opportunity. I’ve decided to research some healthcare ETFs because of this single discussion with my buddy; I’ll post my findings sometime in the near future.
