Last week, I ranted about the ridiculous cost of health insurance unveiled at our company. Today, we had the insurance carrier give us a walk through of all the benefits, costs and changes. One of the most startling changes was an announcement that the insurance company would no longer pay for Nexium.

It was startling because it was the ONLY drug singled out that would not be covered. The rep said Nexium costs about $140/month and they weren’t going to cover it anymore. The rep did suggest a generic alternative but I thought it was interesting that he also mentioned other insurance carriers weren’t going to cover that drug either.

I don’t follow pharmaceuticals but I’d imagine that this can’t be good news for AstraZeneca, maker of the purple pill. I don’t take that pill and I thought the whole thing was interesting.
