It’s very tragic that a bridge in Minneapolis collapsed yesterday. Oddly enough, I wrote this post almost exactly a year ago concerned about the sad deteriorating state of infrastructure in America in my “John Galt” series of posts.
I even went so far as to specifically state that bridges were in sad shape based on a 20/20 news program about the poor maintenance of the bridging system throughout the US. The problem doesn’t stop there though, Alaska Oil Pipeline is aging, power outages (energy shortages) black outs and rolling brown outs, etc. The estimated cost of repairing all of these infrastructure issues falls into the $1.6 trillion dollar range. Factor in 80 million boomers on the dole (social security, medicaid, medicare) and throw another $2 trillion into that fiasco along with the 500 billion (and climbing) “spent” in Iraq and you really have to wonder what kind of America your kids will grow up in.
The only thing you can do about it is to get rich as quickly as possible so you can buy yourself some options, perhaps options in a foreign country……by the way, Who is John Galt?

Yes, there’s definitely a feel of an infrastructure crisis in this country. Where I live, in massachusetts, the big dig has been a nightmare for years, with one person dying in a tragic accident about a year back now.
It is really upsetting to consider all of the money being spent on war, while we still don’t have the ability to keep our own infrastructures safe and sound.
As a side note, I saw Martha Stewart on a video this morning and she basically rolled over when questioned about taxes. She all but said that she thinks that tax hikes are inevitable, regardless of who gets elected president. That is another strike against those who are trying to get rich….!

To bad there is not more political momentum to privatize our transportation, energy, and water infrastructure. That bridge would not have collapsed if it was under the ownership and management of a private company. They would have known that their company would be over if a major bridge collapsed. The government knows that nothing really will happen. They will just have to fork over some money from the budget, which they will raise to cover the costs through taxes!
Decrease the government’s role in our infrastructure and also reduce taxes as a consequence.

I’m working on a post called, “What’s wrong with Lexus Lanes?” that I’ll eventually publish. I primarily use toll ways in the city I live. Why?
The toll roads are almost always faster.
The toll roads are regularly maintained because if they’re down, no one is generating money off of dead concrete.
The toll road service has tow trucks on standby to remove dead vehicles.
The toll road keeps those that can’t afford to be on them off (e.g. criminals, smoking cars, etc).
I was ecstatic when an announcement was made that the tolls would double in many road in my city but the public “outcry” made the city leaders back off. I was disappointed.
