Top 10 Things TO DO During A Recession

1. Invest in training & education
Mass unemployment mean mass competition, often during heavy dry periods people will head back to school to get an MBA or second degree. I’m not sure how viable that course of action might be but I would certainly focus on education that has some staying power in fields [...]

Top 10 Things NOT To Do During A Recession

1. Do NOT purchase gift cards
Not a lot needs to be written about this one, with the list of bankrupt chains growing every day, you’d have to like playing Russian roulette to buy any type of gift cards right now.
2. Do NOT prepay for insurance
The insurance industry is under severe strain and while a few [...]

Website Review Week: Geezeo.com

I wasn’t sure what to make of Geezeo as it seems to be part blog, part marketplace and part community.  Geezeo has a bit of something for everyone I guess but what I found interesting is the public feed community section where people post their spending confessions which makes the site seem a bit like [...]

Website Review Week: PocketSmith.com

I received a request to review PocketSmith.com and I decided to give it a whirl.   I’ve logged on a few times and looked around the website and I came away with two major themes:   High potential and very beta.
First, the site is very aesthetically pleasing and I found the color schemes agreeable, smooth and functional.  [...]

Costco Must Have A Huge Surplus of TVs

Costco has two 46″ LCD priced at $1999.99 and that’s pretty amazing.   No, I don’t mean two different models at that price, I mean TWO LCD TVs for $1999 or about $1000 each.    Not a bad deal and if I weren’t on my tax rebate boycott I’d probably order today.

Let’s see what American Express is up to:

It’s Happened, 10% of Work Force Sacked At Wife’s Employer

Just got word that at least ten percent of my wife’s employer work force have been sacked (a.k.a laid off).  It’s so disappointing because I don’t think her company has ever laid any one off as far as I can remember over the last 15 years.   The company even went through a couple of mergers [...]

Audible.com vs. iTunes And Crazy Price Disparity

With yesterday’s post regarding my conversion of paper books to audio books I’ve been trying to find the best value from a place to purchase my audiobooks from now on but that’s proven difficult to do because no two places sell books in the same way.
The two of the biggest sites to get audio books [...]

The Only Viable Solution: Congress Must Seize, Disband and Rebuild The Federal Reserve

I’ve been analyzing some interesting data and the inescapable conclusion I’ve come to is that in order to avoid a great depression, Congress needs to recharter the Federal Reserve.   Constitutionally speaking, the Federal Reserve is an agency that shouldn’t even exist to begin with but since it does exist, it needs to be radically overhauled [...]
