In early January, I wrote that we would be purchasing a new mattress for our bed. It turns out I was way off on what I thought our mattress would cost. After trying out a few beds at a few stores, we finally settled on the King “” version of a Tempur-Pedic mattress and purchased one a few weeks ago.
Most traditional spring mattresses have a 10 year warranty (like our current bed) but the Celebrity came with a 20 year warranty. Fully amortizing the cost of the bed over a 20 year period, we’re looking to spend about $0.58/day for our bed.
Our second best mattress came in at $0.49/day but the Celebrity is far superior.
After sleeping in the bed for a while now, I’ve realized that my morning back pains have gone away! My legs and ankles aren’t stiff when waking up. I had initially thought that the pain was simply part of getting fatter and older but the bed really does provide a very comfortable sleeping and relaxing surface. I also drift off into sleep almost immediately rather than tossing and turning for an hour or so.
I really didn’t believe that a mattress would make such a difference but this one has so far. It’s fully refundable for 30 more days so we’ll see how the rest of the month goes but it’s likely a keeper.
As I wrote in my earlier post, the cascading expenses are starting to roll in: new sheets, new duvets, new comforters, etc so when it’s all said and done we’ll likely spend a few hundred more dollars on total bedding.
