GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Warning: GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra isn’t a movie about the rising cost of health insurance & cobra or Obama’s new healthcare plan! We went to see the movie this weekend and I have to say that I’m seriously disappointed. Perhaps a movie about the rising cost of health insurance would have made a better movie but there were so many things wrong with this movie:
WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!
First, the acting was HORRIBLE! If it weren’t for that cute red head, I would have lost total interest in the movie. Second, the movie has so many pointless flashbacks that leave you asking more questions than answers! Example, there is an attempt to give some back story to the conflict between snake eyes and storm but it doesn’t answer any thing. Why was snake eyes in Japan as a kid to begin with? Why was he scrounging around for food? What the hell?
Third, while it’s expected to suspend disbelief and accept some of the sci-fi components to the film, basic physics shouldn’t be thrown out the window. There is a scene where floating ice is blown up, WHY DOES IT SINK? Picture an ocean with icebergs, the ice FLOATS right? Well in GI JOE, ice sinks to the bottom of the ocean for no apparent reason. Speaking of oceans, there are underwater scenes where immense pressure fluctuations are no big deal. I guess they skipped the scene where everyone gets . There’s also a scene where RIP is flying an airplane at Mach 6 making turns that would crush body organs and deplete the brain of any and all blood & oxygen but it’s no big deal to GI Joe RIP.
There are a ton of other problems with the movie, characters, plot and cohesiveness to the movie that I give it a huge thumbs down.
The best part of the movie were the previews of other movies that were more interesting to watch like and

I just went and saw the movie. It was pure baloney. I guess I should have read your blog before watching it.

Yes there were a lot of flaws in the movie but if you would rather pick and prod at it than relax and enjoy, that is your choice, I found it entertaining. as for Snake Eyes being in Japan, it is easy to assume he was army brat or something of that idea. Also what is the problem with seeing a white person in Japan? Are people not alowed to travel? Do you always ask questions when you see an asian person in N. America? Yes the ice sinking is complete bogus, but they do state in the movie that there is a LARGE network of tunnels & rooms built in the ice so when you consider all that metal, it could be a plausable situation, after all, a rock covered with ice will sink.
Not a great movie, but definitly recommended for those who liked the cartoons!

This movie was clearly made for the 18-25 demographic and even my pre-teen kid saw the flaws in the movie that I wrote about.
I never said it was a problem for a white kid to be in Japan, I merely asked how he got there and why he was poor and scrounging for food. CLEARLY he was abandoned by someone or maybe his parents were killed by Cobra; who the hell knows but those question arise because there isn’t any FLOW to it.
And no, “all that metal” wouldn’t make the ice sink, it defies the laws of physics.
What really bothered me was the horrible acting and there’s no excuse for that!

I agreed that the sinking ice was “bogus” but was just pointing out that they could just try to use the tunnels as an excuse to back it up. Yes it had bad acting, but when movies with terrible acting like in twilight win awards, I’m not complaining. This movie was definitly not supposed to be taken seriously, as it is based off of a cartoon/comic book series. The movie did what it was supposed to do and that is entertain in G.I. Joe fashion. Although the end credits song did ruin it completely for me
