Well here is a brief list of my goals for 2010.
1. Lose weight – goal is to lose 70 pounds.
2. Take kids to see Total Eclipse (options include Tahiti, Solomon Islands, or Cruise).
3. – Depending on what happens the 1st quarter of 2010, I may move all of my money out of big banks and into credit unions and community banks.
4. Have at least two cool family vacations: one international to Europe or South America, one domestic.
5. Go somewhere by myself exotic and crazy that I’ve never been to before (South Korea, Thailand, etc).
6. Continue this blog – yeah, it’s becoming a goal to keep this blog running with my work, school and family load.
7. Pay off all debt – depending on how the economy recovers (or not) the 1st quarter of 2010, I may opt to pay off all debts which currently include my mortgage and one car note which is nearly paid off.
There are many other goals that I have but these are the ones that I will share with the public. I’m still reconsidering the whole MBA thing and a few decision trees are based off of that so I can’t summarize them here briefly.

First I would suggest taking up running if that is something you are interested in. Just being more active has helped me shed many unneeded pounds but it wasn’t until I started running that I found a exercise I truly enjoy and want to do.
Also if you can stand it Weight Watchers can help you push past losing just a few pounds. I was stuck around 255 for almost two years and after joining I am down to 225 and on my way to getting under 200.

Well the only diet that has ever worked for me is the Atkins high protein low carb diet. I can easily shed 30 pounds in about 30 to 60 days on this diet. The problem is that it gets very difficult to just keep eating steak, lobster, shrimp, beef and chicken all the time.
I do go to the gym almost daily and have a mix of treadmill and weight lifting with and have a personal trainer.

Well weight watchers is not really a diet like the standard stuff out there. You basically can eat whatever you want but there is a daily limit on eating through their point counting system. It is more about thinking differently about food and about how / what you eat and changing that than actual diet.
If you have 70 pounds to lose then you probably have issues beyond getting enough exercise and changing your eating habits and possibly what you eat is probably the solution.

I lost 38 pounds this year just by cutting out specific foods and adding a couple routines. I pretty much eat what I want whenever I feel like it. I only added back around 6 lbs after the several months of not trying to lose.
There is no ” one size fits all” advice as it depends on where you are starting. In my case I was a fat teen who took up lifting/nutrition and got in great (decently muscular) shape through my late teens and most of the 20s. I found I could eat whatever I wanted and enjoyed a huge appetite. At some point my lifestyle changed and my set point slowly crept up. I became overweight and unhealthy, but I pretty much settled in where I was. I was eating so much crap, all I really had to do was keep eating a lot but cut some of the crap. A lot of people could do this. I know people who could probably lose 30-40 lbs if they just stopped drinking Coke, for example. So I did stuff like that, stopped eating out or get the double burger instead of the triple, lift weights a couple hours a week, etc.
I did Atkins before, and it worked temporarily. I like eating a wider variety of food, though, and there is no reason not to.

I actually am planning on trying something new this year. I will start with Atkins for 6 to 8 weeks then take two weeks off eating decent foods (Subway’s low fat Sandwiches come to mind) and then getting back on for another 6 weeks. I’ll see how the first six months go to see how well it’s working.
I know that I simply cannot stay on Atkins for “life” as the program claims, it’s just impossible to avoid carbs in American society.

We’re down to just the mortgage. 10 years left on a 15 year refinance. Starting this month will be doubling the payment. Paying the regular monthly payment once a month and about 1/2 that amount every two weeks. This should get us “mortgage-free” in about 4 years.
