I Finally Got My Mac Book Pro

I couldn’t believe it when I saw the box sitting by the door. My new Mac Book Pro arrived and I have to admit my heart skipped a beat as I picked up the box to open it. When I opened the box, I was surprised at how compact and organized everything inside was laid out. Basically, there was the laptop, a remote control, a DVI to VGA cable, and the power adapter. A smaller box containing some brief instructions and the Mac OS X cds was the only other thing inside the compact box.
I booted up the computer and was up and running in a matter of minutes! The interface was easy to navigate and the Mac is everything I expected and more. I do have a couple of gripes. There isn’t an easy way to right-click. I didn’t realize how much I relied on right-click on my other notebooks to now really miss it. There is a way to right click but I have to hold down the Control key to do it.
The only other gripe I have is that there doesn’t appear to be any docking stations for the Mac. I normally use an external monitor, keyboard and mouse when I’m at the office and I plan on using my new mac exclusively for both work and home productivity so maybe someone out there knows where I can get one.
After setting up the mac book, my kids started playing with the Photo Booth application. My son is now adamant that he wants a laptop just like this one. I found it odd that he said he wants one because he’s never said he wanted one of our Windows laptops before and I can only assume the built in camera is what has clinched the deal for him. I’ll have to talk to Santa about bringing him one this year

To turn on an easy double click feature on the track pad go to the Preferences under the apple menu. Then go to mouse and click the box that says “Place two fingers on trackpad and click button for secondary click.” This allows you to right click. Just put two fingers on the pad and click.
As for the docking. I found one online but the price was about $300 and didn’t seem worth it.

Mark Cuban (Dallas Mavericks Owner and current Dancing with the Stars guy) just bought his first Mac too
he had the same issues with the right click and had about 1000 responses but his blog is a bit more famous than yours lol. You might want to google it, it was something like “One you go Mac, You’ll Never go back”
Are you running Excel/Word on Mac now and if so did you have to buy it for Mac as well? And how seemless are those applications?

In the short time that I’ve had my mac I am simply amazed. It is a HIGH QUALITY product and its worth every penny. I could have bought 2 or 3 windows laptops for the same money but the OS really makes the difference.
Right now, I’m using VMware’s Fusion to run Windows XP in a virtual environment and it is seamless. I’m running Office 2003 with outlook 2003 and I literally can’t tell the difference from running it natively.
I’m running the 30 day demo version but I’ve already ordered the full version from Amazon ($20 cheaper than Vmware’s website).
I won’t EVER go back to a Windows machine. I’m hooked on Mac for life!
By the way, I installed NeoOffice which is far superior to the OpenOffice for Linux and Windows.
I can’t wait to buy the 24″ iMac when my office remodeling is complete.
