Without the insurance industry propping up prices doctors and every one else in the medical industry would be forced to charge reasonable prices in order to stay in business. I also do not need medical insurance to pay for a couple of doctors visits a year and some preventative care. I can afford that (and most people could if the prices were not so inflated). What I need is insurance that covers me if the preventative care finds real problems or I if I have a disaster (say a car accident) that requires a hospital stay or surgery. BTW I currently pay $522.80 a month for health insurance through the California Marjor Risk Medical insurance program. I am not really happy about paying that much but I pay it so I have some sort of disaster coverage.
