No More Chinese Products For Me

I’ve made a conscious decision to avoid anything made in China but especially food products. has a nice summary of all the problems found with various Chinese products over the past few months and I’ve copied an excerpt below:
, here is a list of just some of the things the Chinese have been CAUGHT putting in food they export …
Medicine contaminated with diethylene glycol (antifreeze) passed off as glycerin.
Gluten spiked with Melamine which poisoned so many of our dogs and cats
Toxic fish contaminated with banned antibiotics and chemicals
Juice with unsafe color additives
Tainted seasoning on snacks.
Pork tainted with clenbuterol, a banned feed additive
Also, toy trains made in China have been found contaminated with lead paint. While not strictly a food product, toddlers like to taste things.
Of course, that’s just a sample of issues. I went grocery shopping and was about to put a couple of bags of frozen Tilapia fish (one of our favorites) in my grocery cart but read the label and of course it read, “Product of China” so I put the bags back on the shelves. Instead, I bought a couple of pounds of Alaskan King Crab at the fresh foods counter and some Pink Salmon from the good ole USA. I also bought some Orange roughy fish from New Zealand.
Oddly enough, every time I picked up something I checked to make sure it didn’t say “China” anywhere on it. I ran into some shrimp that came from China which I quickly shelved. There were rice products, canned goods and some other items which I thought didn’t come from China but did which amazed me to an extent.
I’m all for free capitalism but when products start endangering your health and safety, it’s time to stop and re-examine if the low cost is worth the consequences so for now, no more Chinese products for me or my family!
