I tried to pay a deposit when I shopped for my car with my Amex but they wouldn't accept it. They claimed that they would pay more in fees than they would get in profit. They were probably right too. Some subways are really shady in that they don't use the same CC processor as the others and make you sign for the purchase (which generally isn't suppose to happen for purchases under $25).
