Your Career Is Not Your Most Important Asset

There are many people that believe that your career or job is the most important asset a person can have but I disagree. The current economic crisis has demonstrated that careers that have taken years to build can be wiped out in an instant. The current crisis has also illustrated that a career is a vulnerable asset.
So what is the most important asset? From my point of view, it is the ability of a person to ADAPT to something else or something new. The ability to LEARN is the most important asset a person can have and as countless people continue to be unemployed those that have the ability to retrain and learn new fields, new industries and new skill sets will likely succeed financially and personally in the future.
Right now I’m witnessing an intriguing dichotomy, individuals with the ability to adapt are being very successful while those who can’t are having a very difficult time. I’ll hopefully have some real life examples in future upcoming posts.

Great post,
I have always thought than the best you can learn in college is “learn to learn”.
I have been follow you through RSS, it is kind of sad to see ads in your site, but I understand than your time is important so I can live with those.
Thanks,
Jaime

Ads? What ads? I’m not running ads! Can you send me a screen shot?

Am I getting crazy? I am sure I saw an ad in the right panel while typing my comment. It is nice than you continue without any advertisement, but if you decide to go than way, I am going to be just fine, keep reading your posts.
Regards,
Jaime

I wrote a post that was supposed to be an April Fools joke on April 1 stating I would run ads but unfortunately too many people thought it was for real.
Lol! maybe I should put ads up.
