I’ve been reading and researching demographics given the current administration is keen on trying to incentive people to have kids. On my wife’s side of the family, I have 4 nieces/nephews. On my side of the family, I have zero. From a total of 8 siblings (mine and my wife’s) only 4 nieces/nephews were produced. It gets worse. Of those 4 nieces and nephews (all are adults) only one has two kids. The others have stated they don’t want to have any kids.

Our own kids aren’t sure if they want to have kids either. Things may change down the road but with this reproductive rate, there is no way America’s economy is going to grow. Worse yet, the huge amount of baby boomers retiring over the next few years will tax social programs and the healthcare system.
Ultimately, if there aren’t enough people around then things won’t get done and things will end up costing more. There have been endless promises of automation, robots, and now artificial intelligence that will solve all these problems but that’s yet to be seen.
The demographics issue is one of the reasons we’re planning on retiring overseas and it’s one of our criteria in searching for our new home abroad. There is a direct relationship to the number of people available to work and provides goods and services to the quality of life available to everyone.
This is easy to see, head out to a rural area in America and take a look at how many Starbucks, dentists, barbers, grocery stores, etc are available to the population. Now imagine that happening more and more across America as the population ages. If you want the highest possible amount of goods and services you need to be somewhere with a high population of people. If you want a “quiet & slow” pace you leave the city and head out to a rural area.
