I love AI, aside from the creation of the Internet back in the 90s there hasn’t been anything developed as helpful nor as terrifying as AI. If you haven’t seen it already, the latest AI video generator Veo 3 is making headlines with fully AI generated videos that look like the real thing.
A TV commercial can cost $500k with actors, film crews (carpenters, set decorators, electricians, etc) and supporting costs (software, post-production, etc). Veo 3 can eliminate the need for all of those things and simply create a video. You can search for your own Youtube videos fully generated by Veo 3 or watch the compilation below.
Everything in the video clip above was AI generated. The scary part is that this technology is in it’s infancy, it is in the “dial up modem” phase of the internet in the same way the blackberry was the hottest thing at the turn of the century but began to die when the iPhone came out around 2007. Old technology and business models were killed and new ones came of age.
What Is So Terrifying?
The terrifying thing is that any job that is done digitally will be done by AI at some point in the future. High paid Hollywood actors will be a thing of the past. Anyone working in TV, film, music, and most entertainment will be gone. AI can work 24x7x365 till infinity cranking out music, film, TV, art. Wall Street firms? AI can out compute and out smart even the best traders.
I had been planning on writing a book on an idea I had but after playing around with AI, it wrote stuff 10x better than I ever could. I still plan on writing the book but it will likely be heavily influenced by AI.
How To Survive?
I fully expect things to change radically for work. I think the people that will survive best are those that can do trades such as carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, etc or work in hands on services such as physical therapists, nurses, dental hygienists, etc. We may very well see a resurgence of an agrarian lifestyle with people opting to work on farms and ranches.
