The first couple of week after getting laid off, I had plenty of things to do. De-cluttering has been my top priority, my second was getting all my cash flow sorted out including far too much time signing up for meager unemployment benefits.
As time goes on I am finding I have more free time and at first it’s been a blessing. I got a gym membership for Father’s Day and I’ve been spending my morning swimming in the Olympic size pool at the facility.
I also, for the first time in years, went to a movie theater to see a couple of movies. I went with my brother to see the latest John Wick franchise movie, Ballerina. Another week I went to see The Life of Chuck. It was a bit strange because the theater was empty so I’ve had the whole place to myself so far.
What’s Next?
The thoughts creeping into the back of my mind at the moment is what am I going to do next when I’ve exhausted my current to do list. Obviously, planning for a move overseas will consume a bit of time but I am leaning toward using this time to take a trips to Europe, Asia and South America. I’d like to go to Abu Dhabi but recent events in the Middle East will likely have me postpone any trip there for a while.
If I get a good job offer, I may forgo some of those trips but I’m not going to settle for a job in which I’m not going to be happy. I need to find the right fit with the right people to do another year of work.
I still have a stack of books that I plan on reading and will likely do that on the plane on my next vacation. I am getting a little nervous if I’ll get bored of travel what I’ll do but I have a few more things up my sleeve regarding AI.
AI tools and software has become my latest hobby and I have some potential business ideas around it that I may pursue but I need to sharpen my skills which will require some investment in self-training.
