In 1994 a movie entitled, Four Weddings and a Funeral was released and became a huge hit worldwide. I vaguely remember that movie but I never forgot the title and hadn’t thought about it since this year when I’ll have attended four funerals by the time the year ends and no weddings.
So far this year, I’ve lost two people, an aunt and a family friend and I have another family member and friend that both have cancer and aren’t doing well. While I hope they recover there’s a good chance that I’ll have two more funerals to go to before the year ends.
As for weddings, I’ve written about the Demographic Crisis within my own family which portends no weddings anytime soon. Heck, my wife has high school friends that are dying off too and while there was one wedding she was invited to attend, it is too far and in between.
I bring this up for two reasons. First, I currently have COVID and it sucks but second, the current administration plans on announcing huge tariffs on pharmaceuticals and I worry that some of the drugs these cancer patients are taking might be out of their financial reach in the near future thereby accelerating their demise.
But the broader issue is how social programs like social security and medicare survive with an upside down population pyramid. Personally, I’m not banking on social security nor medicare but you never know what turn of events might impact your life that require changes.
