After getting ghosted and rejected by some employers, this week they all called me asking me if I were available or want to continue the process some even after I got rejected! WTF?
Perhaps they were waiting for the shutdown to be over or perhaps anticipation of the Fed cutting rates again in December is motivating companies to hire. Or it could be that many people are retiring and now companies are getting desperate, who knows….but I don’t have any plans on moving forward with those companies.
I have a 100% remote job, I like the people I work with and there is plenty of work for the foreseeable future regardless of what happens with the economy, AI, or the Fed’s interest rate decisions. My plan was to work one more year but if I’m having a stress-free life I may do another year to top off the bank accounts.
In addition, one of my kids finally got hired as a new full time employee this week as well so I’m tempted to say that perhaps the job market is turning around but anecdotal evidence can never be extrapolated to the broader job market.
I have been told that the first two weeks of November are when firms try to hire (if they are hiring) because after that the holidays kick in and people scatter on their vacations making it difficult to do an end-to-end hiring process in a timely manner.
If you’re looking for a job and don’t get one by the end of next week, the next window will likely be in February.
I’m still working on my strategy for all this new money coming in and I should have my first paycheck next week.
