I’m not going to write a resolution post because without action, resolutions are hopeful activities. So I’m going to write about my New Year’s actions. I’ve already done some of these things and I am definitely going to do the rest soon.
Subscriptions (Canceling & Adding)
The most impactful thing to my day to day life are restructuring my subscriptions.
You Are Dead To Me
Amazon Prime – I am going to cancel this year. At some point, Amazon changed the family plan to include only two people in a family that can use Prime. This is a deal breaker and I am canceling and never looking back. I don’t buy that much stuff anyway.
SeekingAlpha.com – These clowns raised prices from $239 to $299 this year, why? What justifies a 25% increase? I see nothing new on the website so I already canceled and I’m not looking back.
Costco.com – I think I signed on to Costco for a year after getting a promo for cheap annual membership. I barely used the service. I might keep it because we want to book a cruise in South America later this year and Costco has had some great deals in the past but otherwise I plan on canceling.
United Airlines Credit Card – I have the expensive UA credit card that grants lounge access and a few other perks but United sucks and I hate flying them so I am going to cancel when the year period ends and probably switch to Chase Sapphire Reserve. This card has a hefty $695 annual fee, will pass the savings on to me. When I fly to Asia, I will use ZipAir!
Amex Hotel Card – I have an Amex card that grants platinum status on Marriott but I am already a lifetime status on the chain and want to build status on other hotel chains so goodbye Amex. This card has a $650 annual fee and it was worth it for the status escalation but don’t need it anymore.
DisneyPlus – For Black Friday, we got a cheap promo good for 6 months which is enough time to catch up on shows then cancel. Rinse and repeat next Black Friday if the offer comes around.
Hello Gorgeous
Barchart.com – Where SeekingAlpha became dead to me, Barchart is my new lover. Ironically, it’s priced at $239 and has more of the information and data I need than the dead site.
Chase Sapphire Reserve? – While I haven’t officially applied for the card, I plan on doing so at some point when my United card annual year ends. I am considering other options but Chase seems to be top dog in this arena.
Google Gemini – I already signed up a month ago but I am looking at possibly expanding. I also plan, for now, to keep my ChatGPT because Gemini fails miserably at some things that ChatGPT excels at and vice versa.
Insurance – After having AI review my insurance portfolio, I have now changed and added additional insurance for home, auto, and rental properties.
Health & Diet
I officially started Atkins diet (low carb, high protein) for the next two weeks to see if I can manage to shed 10 lbs or more. If this doesn’t work, I will need to up my Zepbound dosage once my current prescription runs out.
AI
THe biggest personal change for me will be to continue to use AI to build browser plugins, financial apps, and other things to make my investing better, this blog more dynamic, and overall improved quality of life. I will continue to use Suno, ChatGPT, Gemini, and a few other AI tools to build a platform for my wants and needs.
Well gotta run and get some more things actioned so get out there and do something!
