Before you read this post keep ONE thing in mind. I am not a web app developer nor am I an expert in computer programming. I am simply sitting on my recliner while I watch TV in the background and having a conversation with Gemini on my laptop sitting on my lap.
This started as I was catching up on the TV show Andor. In one of the shows there is a scene of a beautiful building which turns out to be a building in Valencia Spain. This gave me the idea for an app on something that my wife and I have always wanted to do, visit every Unesco site in the world. We’ve visited a few sites already but there are so many we may not get to them all unless we focus hard on doing it.
To that end, I started up a conversation with Gemini, gave it my premise and we started talking about what I wanted and it started building it for me. The screenshot below is where we got to in under an hour.

The app started a lot more primitive but through each iterative upgrade, I requested more and more features based on my travel experiences. Typically when we travel we travel on a particular month and to a particular continent. I added options for three groups: young adult, middle aged, and elderly because as we’ve gotten older, it’s no longer easy to climb up mountains or steep passages but our kids could still do it so why not have an option for them. Lastly, the final category is level of mobility needed to achieve the site visit. Obviously if you’re in a wheelchair, somethings might not be possible nor if you are injured and have some type of mobility or disability and I’ve been hurt plenty of times to say I’ll pass. There isn’t a budget/cost option because that’s not really relevant to me.
All of these options come from our personal experience and this is the great thing about Gemini and having it build custom apps for you. YOU tell it what YOU need and it does it. Try visiting TripAdvisor or any other travel website and get this level of customization for YOUR travel needs and it likely won’t have it because it doesn’t know YOU. Quite frankly, I wouldn’t want to share this level of information anyway and now with my own apps, I won’t need to ever share personal information again.
I’m not done with the app, I just spent an hour having a conversation and I am already achieving results better than most websites. Even the Unesco website doesn’t provide mobility or weather/best time to travel information and I find that baffling.
By the time I’m done with this, I want to make selections, push a button and have a complete itinerary with air, hotel, tickets, restaurant recommendations, and other things to do. Heck, I might even add where I can do my laundry!
Again, I’m not a computer / web developer, I’m just some guy using a chatbot to create stuff I need. I didn’t write a single line of code and Gemini gives me commands to type in a prompt to get this web app going. I am using the Gemini CLI interface that I referenced in a prior post.
I hope you see and understand the terrifying reality that is AI. If you don’t pay attention, your job might just vanish and you’ll be wondering what happened. This post and this app is just one example of how many websites and jobs will be eliminated over time. Once I get this working right, I won’t ever need to visit TripAdvisor, an airline portal or any other travel site!
