A friend recently had a family member pass away and as a result they needed to get rid of stuff. I was asked to help and came across hundreds of LP albums destined for the trash and was asked if I wanted them. I decided to take the albums but I wanted to know what I had since there were over a hundred so how to do this quickly and efficiently? AI to the rescue!
With my iphone I took photos of every album cover then uploaded them to AI, had it identify each album by it’s cover then build a database around it and give me a web interface to the library.
MusicDB Portal
The image below is the main web portal.

Album Detail
I had AI search for the estimated value of the album and it populated that information. I also requested it add the music tracks but it didn’t find them for all albums. For those that did look like the image below.

Total Value
How much was this collection destined for the trash worth? According to Gemini, it all had a retail value of $1,237!

AI did all the work except for taking the pictures of the Album covers. The hardest parts of this project were:
- Taking the albums from the house into my car.
- From my car to my house
- Taking photographs of each album.
The easiest part of the projects:
- Sitting on my recliner
- Booting up my laptop and Gemini
- Copy/Paste image files
- Telling AI what I wanted and typing a few improvements every now and then and pressing ENTER when Gemini wanted to do something on the computer.
All of this was done in 2 hours. The first hour was the hardest, the second hour was the easiest.
Next Steps
The LP albums weren’t the only thing I got from this situation but that’s a story for another post.
