I wrote about canceling subscriptions in my post “How To Prepare For A Recession” back in 2024 and this year, as I expected, got laid off. I re-examined my subscriptions to make sure I’m not wasting any money. I recently canceled my Apple TV+ subscription since the shows I liked I already watched and the new seasons won’t be fully out for a while.
Interestingly, the subscription that I used to use the most was Spotify. I love listening to music on my phone with my ear pods but that all changed this year with Suno.com.
I haven’t spent much time on Spotify other than to listen to some podcasts that I like. I now spend most of my music time on Suno listening to my own and others people’s creation. I’ve created my own symphonies, operas, pop, country, jazz, and experimental fusion music.
I’m going to be fully transparent here, I am addicted. I haven’t been this addicted to a technology since the iPhone came out and I absolutely can’t put Suno.com down. The main reason is that I love music but was a total dunce at being able to write, compose or much less sing. All of that has changed with Suno.
I have a technique for cranking out music now and as I experiment every day my music gets better. I’ve had to force myself to learn every type of string instrument now, even foreign exotic ones in addition to other musical instruments to tweak my music just the way I like it. I am also learning how AI works and doesn’t work and while there has been a learning curve, it’s not insurmountable.
I’d love to cancel my Spotify subscription but it’s a family plan and my family uses it so I’ll keep it but after canceling Apple TV+, I signed up for a paid Suno.com subscription.
I wrote about being terrified by AI in a post here, if you haven’t read it, you should and prepare accordingly if you plan on working in the new world.
