Now that I’m retired I’m looking more carefully at my spend and the products I use to see if there is a way to optimize what I have or alternatives that I can use. I absolutely love my VEVO insect traps. My front door and back door seem to be magnets for all sorts of insects.
I installed a VEVO on my back and front and it’s made a huge difference to insect reduction. Unfortunately, it was also making a huge impact to my wallet. The 8 refill cartridges cost $28 on Amazon. I burn through one of these at least every week for each VEVO so do the math, $28/8 = $3.5/each x 52 weeks x 2 = $364 or about $1/day for insect control.
Alternatives
I looked for alternatives and came across this gem from Kittmip. They are peel-able sticky traps that fit almost perfectly into the VEVO. You can either trim them at the edges to make them more square or just fold and slide them into the VEVO which is what I do.
These are 48 pcs for $9.99 or $0.20/each. So $0.20 x 52 x 2 = $21.65 / year. Saving $340 is a no-brainer here. Will I get the same results? We’ll see, I just set them out this weekend and I’ll keep an eye out. By the time this post goes live, I’ll have had a few days worth of bug accumulation so I’ll update this post.
There are rolls of sticky paper you could buy even cheaper but that would require trimming the oversized paper into the right sizes for the VEVO and I don’t want to waste that kind of time to save a few more cents. This solution seems perfect for me but I will shop around and see if I can get these from TEMU or Amazon HAUL for even lower prices.
UPDATE
After a few days, the VEVO hack worked perfectly. I just slipped the cheap paper sticky paper over the old one and it accumulated a ton of insects. I will order a new VEVO refill and leave it unused so it’s cleaner. The image below shows the paper and original VEVO behind it with insects. Should be cleaner to leave the VEVO unused and use the white paper stickies.

Is this a cool hack or what?
