I am in the slow process of migrating my AI toolkit built largely around ChatGPT over to Google’s Gemini. I wrote about this a while ago in this post where I talked about AI eating AI and it’s becoming obvious that ChatGPT may not survive in the same way Betamax lost to VHS or HD-DVD lost to Blu-Ray video discs.
In any new technological advancement there are always winners and losers and ChatGPT is starting to look like a loser to me and I don’t want to continue development of my AI tool ecosystem around something that will be obsolete. It’s like building a cassette audio library right when compact discs are coming out.
It’s The Ecosystem Stupid!
While I have loved ChatGPT and used it primarily, it is just a one-trick pony on a stallion race track. Google has an entire ecosystem that includes productivity apps (docs, sheets, presentations, maps, etc) that can integrate with their AI tools. Google also has a cloud and programming environment and scalability capacity beyond what most other companies and countries have for that matter.
This process will take a while and Google’s environment has a bit of a learning curve but Gemini Pro is turning me into a Python professional using Google’s API’s and I’m not even a computer programmer!
The fact that I am now running python scripts on Google’s platforms and getting it to do what I want is blowing me away. Meanwhile ChatGPT is cutting older AI models and their image generation has gotten slower and slower for me.
I have big plans for Google’s AI platform and I’m already having exciting sleepless nights about things I want to build to make my life easier managing my investment portfolio.
ChatGPT’s best hope is to get bought out or partner with Apple or Microsoft. Speaking of Microsoft, it’s CoPilot is utter garbage. I am endless annoyed by Microsoft apps. For example, Excel still can’t pre-determine that if I am filling a column with dates in a certain format it should NOT change it to some other format as I paste data into it. You would think issues like this would be mitigated by AI before they happen but it doesn’t. Microsoft Co-pilot is like a kid’s toy compared to other AI tools and that’s sad for a company the size of Microsoft but then again most of their apps have been mediocre in my opinion from the beginning. I’m not the only one that feels this way, this article says everyone hates Microsoft CoPilot.
Hey What About Personal Finance?
I know, I know, this is a personal finance blog so what’s with the rant about AI. Well I had been working on a few cool tools but now that I’m switching it will be delayed a bit but fear not, I will try to work quickly to bring some new personal finance ideas here using AI to optimize them for consumption.
To give you some hints you can re-read these posts:

These are just a few ideas I’ve been thinking about to optimize with AI but there is plenty more around research, taxation, treasury bonds, stocks, currencies, and other topics.
People spend time picking out their streaming services such as Netflix over Paramount or HBO over Amazon Prime but I spend time picking out tools to optimize my investment portfolio.
It’s only a matter of time that you’ll be forced to carry an AI ecosystem the same way you carry a streaming service because if you don’t have one, you (and your kids) will be left behind.
