I’m excited to showcase my second web app. Yes, it’s fairly also primitive but you need to understand that I am still not a computer programmer. This is just a baby step into developing more complex things and when I was in high school and even college, I loved comic strips. Even into adulthood I read comic strips with the Sunday newspaper but newspapers faded away about a decade ago so it’s hard to read them these days so I decided to start developing my own series.
The comic strip above was fully generated by Gemini with my little app outlined below. It took a few iterations to fix some of the issues with Gemini. First, keeping the character consistent is a real challenge. For example in panel 1,2, and 3 the father has a wristwatch but in panel 4 it is gone. The father’s hair seems to change from panel to panel. The kitchen disappears in panel two from panel 1 but you could argue the angle of view changed as the boy sits down across the dad. The boy’s undershirt changes colors and the text in the last panel got garbled.
Until Google fixes this consistency issue, I probably won’t be posting too many comic strips here but it will be fun to create them. Gemini did try to help by building that top windows for character consistency and while the characters are somewhat consistent, the environment isn’t. Before I had that consistency prompt, the images were wildly different from frame to frame.
Like the first app, this interface allows me to create a comic strip with just focusing on the text and not all the metadata parameters. I can create a 4 or 6 panel strip and in a variety of styles. The comic above is “vintage comic” but there are a many others possible.
