At the start of the year, I wrote about my New Year’s Actions because I wanted to get stuff done and I have gotten more stuff done with AI in five months than I’ve done the last 5 years. Here’s a recap.
WiFi Rebuild
I painstakingly rebuilt my whole WiFI network at home with the help of ChatGPT and it’s running amazingly. But it didn’t stop there, I have been tweaking the settings of the whole network and firewall.
Plex Server
I setup a plex server at home and uploaded all my family home videos and it worked great from inside our home but once we went outside our home, it didn’t work but I know it had that capability. I messed with the setting on the firewall and plex server to get it working over the years off and on but could never get it working right. ChatGPT fixed the entire problem in less than 10 minutes by walking me through every setting. When I wasn’t sure what to do I posted a screen shot of what I was looking at and it walked me right through it.
Proxmox Server & Backup Server
I moved my apps to a Proxmox server in my new home lab which AI helped me design, purchase, install and implement over a couple of hours and days.
DNS, Firefox Certificates
If you’ve ever seen the image below, you know how annoying these Firefox invalid certificate warnings can be. AI walked me through fixing most of these by naming all the servers, setting up DNS, creating certificates and installing them. Presto, no more annoying (mostly) warnings.

Microsoft Upgrades That Break Things
Prior to moving everything to my new home lab, I was using my laptop running virtual machines to do my app development to isolate the ChatBots. I’m not sure what happened exactly but a recent Microsoft update broke all my virtual machines on my PC. Fortunately, AI came to the rescue and got me back up and running but it was a very painful process. I am now going to dump anything and everything Microsoft in my house and just use Linux. I am starting the migration process today, moving all my files off of OneDrive, I’m done with garbage OS and software and I’m building my own.
Apps & Documentation
I’ve built a ton of apps, dashboards, and other tools to make my life easier but none of it would have been possible without AI. And the best part is AI is acting as my secretary documenting everything we do as we go along.
Thrilling Yet Terrifying
Everyday is a thrilling experience with AI but I am well aware that jobs are going to disappear because of this and good paying jobs at that and the truly scary thing is that we’re just at the beginning of this AI revolution.

Have you used AI to fix your tech stuff yet?
